PKMN-Armonia: Aylen Nightraven

Hometown: Arborville

History: Aylen and his family lived in an area north of Olivine, in a town known as Arborville. It was small community that was made up mostly of fellow tribesman, all of whom were decedents of the natives, though it was a fairly modern tourist attraction. Even so, there were those who still practiced the native traditions.

Young Aylen was fascinated by the old ways and the history of his people. He spoke with elder Pokémon on many occasions, and practiced what he learned in the privacy of the forest. He wasn’t one for playing with others as he was shy, and rather enjoyed the company of wild Pokémon. He’d spent many an evening sitting in the trees and listing to their calls.

More often than not, he’d wear customary tribal clothing (the kind his family only wore to special events) instead of his t-shirts and jeans. When confronted about it he’ll quietly claim them to be less itchy, but that’s not really why he wore them. He didn’t have particularly high self-esteem, and the truth was that while in them he stood a little straighter, felt more confident. They made him feel like he really was a proud native of his tribe.

His parents were happy that their son was well versed as a native, but worried for him as a modern citizen. There just wasn’t a good education for those past the younger grades, and many of the residents had never gotten the chance to finish high school. Aylen was getting older and, like all loving parents, they wanted nothing but the best for him. Together they began searching for outside options.

During Aylen’s last years of middle school, he started to feel uncomfortable. It was his past experience that if he didn’t approach anyone, nobody made any moves towards him. Now it seems that his strange looks were attracting more stares than he was used to. Though the looks weren’t necessarily negative, it made him nervous. They probably thought he was weird with how he dressed, and he was certain he’d do something to humiliate himself to confirm their suspicions. He was so anxious about this that he had sunk into the floor in a true Ghost-type fashion. No Pokémon wants to take the risk of getting picked on. While out of class, he spent much of his time lurking in people’s shadows as to not draw attention to himself. Once he realized how cowardly his actions were, he was already past caring. It was easier to just avoid everyone else.

His parents were fully aware that Aylen was going through a bit of a rough spot. He was slowly withdrawing from his peers, and they were worried that this might soon affect his schooling. He had shared his troubles with him, but they couldn’t seem to do much to help him. It was then that they decided to bring up the subject of continuing his education elsewhere. Though he was apprehensive of the idea, he eventually picked up an application for the Armonia Institute. He didn’t figure he’d make it into such a prestigious school, but it would make his parents happy if he did. If there was one thing that tribesmen were supposed to do, it was to make their family proud.

Haunter are major illusionists, and are fully capable of vanishing into thin air. This is not just some trick of the light as one might think. Their physical form actually vanishes. Aylen also has this ability, but can only use it in shadowed areas. He doesn’t have much mastery over it.

He actually has a secret addiction to television, and tries to avoid them lest he risk watching it all day.

He appears shorter than he actually is on account of his slouching.
